The longer I am here the more I learn about the children. Each child has a story of the reason why they are here and the hard lives they used to live. Many of the children were abandoned at the hospitals just a few days old.
One of the boys in Casa Milagros is 4 years old and has cerebral palsy. He is in a wheel chair but is just as cute as can be. He cant talk but will laugh and smile. He was found left by a dumpster a couple of years ago. His teeth are rotten and was malnutritioned but he is doing much better now.
There is a girl that also has cerebal palsy in Milagros and she is about 15 years old. She used to be able to walk and we are working with her to try to get her to be able to again one day. She is very smart and understands english but can only say some words. She is such a sweetheart and loves helping the workers with the dishes. She was molested in her house and had to be taken from her home. Her family comes and visits about 3 times a year, but its almost as if there is no love there. Breaks my heart, such a sweet girl deserves a loving family but she is so much better off at OSSO then at her home.
A 6 year old boy in Esperanza has a physical handicapp and has been with OSSO for about 3 years. He is from the Amazon and was left at an uncles house. He was being abused there so a lady that was very close to the catholic church took him in. She loved him like her own son but her husband thought she loved the boy more then him so he told her to choose between the two. She chose her husband and had to give the child up. That is how he came to our Orphanage. If you ask him he can still do some of the chants they would do in the amazon and he will talk about living with that lady.
Two days ago a social worker showed up to the OSSO Orphanage with her shoes covered in mud and she was with another lady carrying a baby and crying. This lady was also the mother of 3 other children at the orphanage. She had gotten pregnant and ran away because she knew they would take her baby. This social worker had to hike up the mountain to find this lady and take her baby because she knew that it wasnt in good hands. The three other children have been with us for about a year now. The oldest is 7 years old and he takes care of everyone. They were able to see their mother and it wasnt a good situation. Its hard seeing babies being dropped off. The whole two weeks I have been here there have been 4 babies dropped off.
These are just some of the many stories of the children that are here. They are so young but so strong. You just know that they are so precious to our heavenly father and he loves them so much. I just pray that they will be able to find loving homes.
